The apartment is on the second floor of a restored period building on Vicolo del Leopardo. There is a double bedroom with its own bathroom, a second bathroom off the living room, and a sofa bed that takes it to four guests. The living room has a fireplace, a dining table and exposed wooden beams. The kitchen has what you need to cook a proper meal.

The lane

Vicolo del Leopardo is one of the most photographed lanes in Trastevere, and you see why as soon as you step outside: laundry strung between the façades, huge plant pots on the residents’ steps, a protected colony of cats. Very few cars come through. A few old Trastevere families still live here, as they have for generations.

Trastevere around you

Some of Rome’s finest medieval churches are a few minutes’ walk away: Santa Maria in Trastevere, with its mosaics by Pietro Cavallini, and Santa Cecilia, where the patron saint of music was martyred. The Gianicolo hill, with its view over the whole city and the cannon that still fires at noon, is within walking distance, and so are Ponte Sisto and Villa Sciarra. On Sunday mornings there is Porta Portese, the city’s best-known flea market.

Campo de’ Fiori is about ten minutes away across the river, and Piazza Navona less than twenty. The Vatican is walkable too.

Before you arrive

Check-in is self-service, with a lockbox for the keys, so there is no need to agree on a time to meet. The heating is independent, there is air conditioning in the bedroom and the living room, and the wi-fi is fast enough to work on.
